Owner Comments:
SOLD.
This was a rare opportunity to own a unique Canadian built Wooden
Nordic Folkboat. Known for their seaworthiness, Adelie was built
in 1966/67 by Hans Gertsman, a well known Toronto sailor and
master craftsman, and sold at the 1967 Toronto Boat Show. She
is built with a lapstrake hull of Mahogany with Oak frames and
Sitca Spruce Mast/Boom. Adlelie is unique because she has a
long cabin with a tabernacle mounted mast. This gives her far
more usable space below compared to the standard Folkboat. Adelie
comes fully equipped to sail on Lake Ontario, which I have done
for the last 17 years, single handed mostly. She is easily handled
by 2 people. In 1982, Adelie was sailed to George Town in the
Exuma's and back by her second owner and comes with a custom
built wooden dingy built for that trip. I purchased her in 1999
at which time I had a $20,000 + rebuild to better than new condition
by Woodwind Yachts. I have personally maintained and upgraded
her since and she has been in the water and sailed every year
and was only taken out of the water in August 2017 because I
purchased another boat.
I do not want to sell Adelie but I have become a 2 boat owner
after purchasing a large boat to sail off to the Caribbean in
the spring. I have sailed her for 1,000's of nautical miles
on Lake Ontario and she is a wonderful seaworthy boat that will
take you safely anywhere you may wish to go. She is guarantied
to turn heads at any port you arrive in. Valued at $35,000 for
insurance and with an estimated cost of $125,000 to build a
new one, Adelie represents an incredible value for a 50 year
old rare Canadian Classic in very good overall condition. She
needs a little cosmetic TLC but is otherwise ready to take you
on many more adventures for many years to come.
